![]() (I came across Beaton’s comics while on Tumblr, where they regularly make an appearance in my dashboard.) The layout is simple and easy to follow yet creative and visually appealing. The website I’m focusing on is an example of a blog which has accomplished several, if not all, of these. I think it’s safe to say that once each of those instances has occurred, some level of success has been reached. Once a blog has achieved being aesthetically and informatively pleasing, it will secure followers who share the site with their friends and eventually the rest of the internet. They won’t be able to stand the thought of missing new posts. If both are done well, which I believe Hark! A Vagrant has accomplished, visitors will find it difficult to stay away, returning again and again and becoming regular followers. In my opinion, it is both the visual aspect and what makes up the content of a blog that makes it memorable. Beaton’s work serves as an amusing break from mundane chores of the day as well as means of spending time browsing through content that manages to make you giggle while feeling strangely intellectual at the same time. It’s impossible for me to browse through the site without snickering incessantly. One can anticipate a snide sense of humor backing the sketches and an overall goofiness as well. Visitors can expect each comic to contain Beaton’s personal spin on a plethora of major figures, works of literature, and events spanning from Elizabeth I to David Bowie and Wuthering Heights to Harry Potter. Hark! A Vagrant is a historical and literary yet hilarious blog that showcases comics done by the owner of the blog, Kate Beaton.
